Do Nothing… To Do Your Best
I often get asked the question, “what should I think about during swing”? Here is the easist way I know to describe a golf swing: “ZERO IT OUT”. As you read this tip think about how simple a tour player makes the swing look. What are they thinking about as they swing? Don’t make striking a golf ball harder than it needs to be!
So what should you concentrate on during the swing? Lets look at the swing from the ground up and learn what you should, and should not, concentrate on moving in the swing.
THE FEET - Do ZERO in the swing, they only react to the movement of the knees.
THE KNEES - Do ZERO in the swing, they only react to the movement of the legs.
THE LEGS - Do ZERO in the swing, they only react to the movement of the hips.
THE SHOULDERS - Do ZERO in the swing, they only react to the movement of the hips.
THE LEFT ARM - Do ZERO in the swing, it only reacts to the movement of the right arm.
So if the feet, knees, legs, shoulders, and left arm do nothing then what is actually going to hit the ball?
The golf swing is nothing more than a hip motion and right arm motion. The right hip starts the swing by pulling back. Then simply cock the right arm which moves everything we just talked about above. From the top, start to uncock the right arm and pull the left hip back.
Caution: The arms uncock first! If a player starts the downswing by pulling or turning the left hip first, the club will always be thrown outward, over the top, causing poorly struck shots. It “Seems As If” tour players start down with the left hip. But they actually must start down with the arms which keeps the club on plane throughout the swing.
So all a player needs to remember to make a perfect golf swing is: RIGHT HIP-RIGHT ARM-RIGHT ARM-LEFT HIP
